The Opportunity
Ascend seeks a dynamic and experienced program manager to join our growing programs team to conceptualize, design and deliver cutting-edge and impactful in person and virtual programs for our professional members. This role reports to the Sr. Director of Programs.
Responsibilities:
Develop program concepts informed by market research and member insights
Manage member surveys for program insights
Suggest relevant presenters/speakers for existing and new programs and manage incoming speaker interest for Ascend-wide programs and events
Manage end-to-end speaker operations including but not limited to: preparation of speaker invitations, confirmation letters, speaker intake form, speaker prep materials, scheduling of speaker prep call
Manage end-to-end program run of show and provide inputs into all production aspects of each program
Partner with the marketing team to build a comprehensive plan for program promotion to target audience (mass email, social media, chapters, etc.)
Manage database of speakers and program concepts/ideas
Ensure currency of program and speaker engagement guidelines
Coordinate with corporate (including employee/business resource/affinity groups), and community partners for program partnership opportunities
Coordinate with the finance team for programs that are sponsored
Liaise with chapter leadership and assist program development and presentation to ensure consistency
Liaise with vendors such as event planner, videographer, photographer for programs where relevant
Manage Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Credit administration for relevant programs
Candidate Profile
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent meaningful professional experience
5+ years of relevant professional experience
Demonstrated success in program management
Experience planning and organizing in-person and virtual events/conferences
Proficient skills using Microsoft / Google office software/tools (spreadsheet, presentation, database, etc.); familiarity with Adobe suite and InDesign a plus
Strong interpersonal communication (written and verbal) and customer relationship skills
Experience working with business professionals
Private sector experience desired
Self-starter and creative thinker
Excellent attention to detail and ability to consistently produce timely and accurate work
Skilled collaborator and ability to work as an effective team member
Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality regarding all aspects of work, at all times
Positive personal attitude that includes bias towards action, a willingness to adapt to changing situations, and having a good sense of humor
An entrepreneurial spirit, with the ability to embrace opportunity and overcome challenges
Employment Details
Full Time, Salary/Exempt position, starting salary is 80,000-90,000

Ascend is a remote organization with a highly collaborative geographically distributed team. This position will be based remotely in one of the states listed: CA, CT, FL IL, MN, NJ, NY, TX.
Requires occasional weekend, off-hours, or evening work
Occasional travel to support and attend events outside of regular business hours (typically no more than 5%).

The Opportunity
Ascend seeks a dynamic and experienced Director, Marketing and Communications who is inspired by Ascend’s mission. As an integral member of the leadership team, the Director, Marketing and Communications will be responsible for the marketing and communications operations and team and direct all aspects of Ascend’s branding, marketing, and communications strategies for both the national organization and local chapters.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director, Marketing and Communications will oversee a wide range of promotional activities to enhance the organization’s visibility and brand reputation and reach a wide variety of important audiences. This person will support the strategic direction and positioning of the organization including professional development and community programs; advocacy, research, and thought leadership; partner engagement campaigns; organizational initiatives; and events. Key activities include marketing planning, brand strategy, messaging, email, media relations, online marketing including website strategy, thought-leadership content, creative materials, and team and project management.

Responsibilities
Define the overall marketing and communications objectives that are in line with Ascend’s mission, priorities, and goals, and measure against those objectives to streamline and hone strategies
Oversee the development and execution of the strategic long-term marketing and communications plans
Lead a talented marketing team’s performance and development goals, assigning projects and accountability, setting objectives, establishing priorities, and conducting annual performance reviews
Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach
Manage assigned budgets and align spending to organizational goals, strategic priorities, and focus areas to ensure a return on impact
In collaboration with Ascend leadership, set the strategic positioning for Ascend’s branding, enhancing the visibility of the organization to all audiences, and working collaboratively with our local chapters to ensure the marketing and communications are on-brand, aligned, delivers measurable outcomes, and are in the best interests of the organization
Oversee the development of Ascend’s messaging, broadening awareness of our programs, events, and initiatives across our audiences that includes API students, API professionals, corporations, funders, donors, partners, and Ascend members
Creating and effectively deploying best-in-class marketing, branding, public relations, thought-leadership, storytelling, and community-building strategies to cultivate and enhance meaningful relationships with targeted partners and audiences
Engage with key traditional and online media outlets to gain coverage of Ascend’s mission, work, and impact
Manage key vendor (paid and pro bono) relationships for marketing and communication to support the delivery of the strategy
Oversee and execute Ascend’s email and online strategy, including email segmentation and outreach; broader membership and partner engagement campaigns; social media channels; website management and website strategy development
Collaborate across Ascend teams including the program, thought leadership, business development team, Foundation, senior executive program, key board members, and Ascend leadership to develop multichannel campaigns to grow individual and corporate memberships, increase event attendance, fundraise, and business development.
Assist in the creation of online, video, audio, graphic design, written content, website, and print content and ensure consistency and accuracy of Ascend branding and messaging across all materials
Prepare press releases and media pitches, help write thought-leadership pieces, and paid media content
Establish Key Performance Indicators to measure activities and evaluate the effectiveness of marketing efforts towards achieving intended outcomes
Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in Marketing or Communications
7+ years of relevant experience preferably at a nonprofit, cultural institution or membership organization, or in the private sector
Demonstrated leadership in creating, implementing, and evaluating best-in-class branding, marketing, communications, and event promotion
Experience with event promotion, including large fundraising events and conferences
An ethic of leadership, collaboration, and mentorship
Positive personal attitude that includes being outgoing, action-oriented, flexible, with a willingness to adapt to changing situations and having a good sense of humor
An entrepreneurial spirit, with the ability to embrace opportunity and overcome challenges
Ability to mentor, manage, and motivate staff
