The Senior Category Manager – IT & BPO develops and maintains leading edge global sourcing strategy and appropriate supply base with clear spend governance for assigned IT related category(ies), including IT Infrastructure, hardware, software, services and telecommunications.
The Senior Category Manager is also responsible for leading the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Center of Expertise (CoE) that includes developing leading practices and tools in BPO, sharing knowledge and expertise with stakeholders and other sourcing leaders and facilitating BPO projects from initiation through to transition to Supplier Relationship Management under formal governance structures.

The Senior Category Manager – IT & BPO develops and maintains groundbreaking global sourcing strategy and appropriate supply base with clear spend governance for assigned IT related category(ies), including IT Infrastructure, hardware, software, services and telecommunications.

The Senior Category Manager is also responsible for leading the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Center of Expertise (CoE) that includes developing leading practices and tools in BPO, sharing knowledge and expertise with partners and other sourcing leaders and facilitating BPO projects from initiation through to transition to Supplier Relationship Management under formal governance structures.

Categories and associated suppliers are typically global in nature and represent significant risk to multiple businesses. The Senior Category Manager works in close alignment and collaboration with business, functional and / or regional partners for the assigned category(ies) to understand their needs and requirements. They work as well as with regional procurement managers to implement global sourcing strategies.

The Senior Category Manager is responsible for key strategic supplier management including risk, performance, relationship, value plan delivery and supplier development.

  • Sourcing strategies should be broad of all regional business requirements and reflective of all regional supply market conditions and supply practices.
  • Responsible for negotiation planning, negotiation and contracting with suppliers, and ensuring that agreements reflect BD’s needs globally. IT contracts goes from Small SaaS agreement to large or extra-large ($100M) services agreements.
  • Accountable for communication and approval globally, and for appropriate handoff to regional sourcing associates for regional supplier selection and / or implementation associates for strategy implementation.
  • Responsible for ensuring that category strategy(ies) result in and generate three-to-five-year roadmaps of savings and value streams, and where appropriate, innovation opportunities
  • Continually sensing of internal customers and supply markets for changes that may impact the sourcing strategy.
  • Accountable for year-on-year financial impacts to assigned category(ies) with respect to price movement
  • Responsible for leading global category teams through the supplier selection process and for the approval of selected suppliers by stakeholders. The team-based supplier selection process is broad of identification of potential suppliers, RFX development and execution, proposal evaluation against business requirements and total cost of ownership, and supplier selection recommendation. Upon stakeholder approval and completion of successful negotiation and contracting, the associate is responsible for coordinating the communication of the supply base to the end user community.
  • Responsible for implementing supplier relationship management activities for key assigned suppliers within the assigned category (ies), with oversight regarding supplier relationship management activities for global suppliers who may have specific regional activities
  • Responsible for application of the source to pay process, expansive of customer-centric support content and preferred payment methods, as part of sourcing strategies
  • Responsible for customer relationships with partners for assigned category(ies) on a global basis.

Where applicable to the assigned category(ies), the Senior Strategic Sourcing Manager: 

  • Is accountable for developing and maintaining risk mitigation plans inclusive of compliance for designated suppliers within assigned category(ies) with businesses or functions
  • Is responsible for optimal supply base compliance for assigned supply base including compliance to corporate procedures and to support of all legislation driven and socially responsible reporting requirements.
  • May engage in peer coaching and mentoring for regional strategic sourcing and implementation associates

Degree of Accountability:

Responsible for the overall management of assigned category(ies) through the creation and maintenance of multi-year sourcing strategies and their associated project pipelines and source plans. Savings pipelines in aggregate should provide a return on spend in excess of five percent with commitments for Class I and Class II projects. Where applicable for the category(ies), Through the management of risk mitigation plans, drives cross functional team progress towards risk retirement.
Responsible for global category team effectiveness.

Financial Impact:

Establishes and maintains long term collaborative relationships (through supplier relationship management) with key suppliers and ensures that all suppliers are treated in a professional, ethical and fair manner.

Quality Impact:
If assigned, performs procurement related activities for the New Product Development Process. Responsible for including in strategy development the consideration of, and where relevant implementing all relevant aspects of the source-to-pay process in sourcing strategies for assigned category (ies) globally.
Responsible for global category team coordination.

Cost Impact:

Maintains relationships with business, functional and / or regional partners for the assigned category(ies). Influences the respective budgets through communications and consensus on strategies, projects and processes.

Budget Responsibility:

Responsible for global category team results and delivery against functional goals. Improves BD’s financial position through cost savings, non-price value opportunities and price movement / inflation management and appropriate standard costs.

The Senior Statistician will provide statistical support for clinical trials and some pre-clinical trials as needed. The projects complexity will vary but this work is essential to find the best possible outcomes for those that rely on our products.

Duties:

  • Collaborate with clinical and project teams, plan and analyze studies/experiments; use statistical knowledge to support and guide business decisions
  • Program, document, and validate software code to execute data handling tasks, perform data analysis, design statistical approaches to handle non-standard statistical problems, and produce data visualization results
  • Present findings to Leadership
  • Provide statistics results for projects to meet schedules and goals for multiple businesses and platforms
  • Develop/revise statistical analysis plans independently except for unusual situations, which might require consultation
  • Identify and work to implement process improvement initiatives within the Statistics function or across related functions
  • Keep abreast of new statistical developments and regulatory guidance; survey related fields for techniques that could be adapted to BD’s needs
  • May make presentations or contribute to publications for industry-related conference and journals

Skills and Requirements:

  • Demonstrated competence in the application of statistical techniques used in product development and clinical trials is required. In addition, demonstrated competence in the application of statistical techniques used in other areas such as manufacturing operations, quality, regulatory, and continuous improvement is a plus.
  • Ability to program, document, and validate statistical software code in R is required
  • Knowledge and experience working in a reproducible research environment is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of applicable regulations and the ability to apply without supervision is preferred.
  • Ability to exercise strong professional judgment is required.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills and the ability to influence without direct authority are required within the function.
  • Ability to assist in delivering training to non-statistical professionals is required.
  • Demonstrated capability of working on multiple projects at one time is required.

  • Strong interpersonal skills are required. Specifically, cross functional collaboration, listening and negotiation skills are essential.

Required:

  • A minimum of a Master’s degree is required in Statistics, Biostatistics, or related field (math, physics, computer programming) with 3 or more years of proven experience in a regulated industry with device and/or healthcare industry. (PhD preferred with 1or more years of experience).
  • Experience working with FDA and/or other regulatory bodies outside of submission work is preferred (i.e. guidance document generation, meetings/clinics.)
  • Experience providing statistical consulting for non-statisticians is preferred
