Full Job Description
The Broward County Natural Resources Division is seeking an experienced Accountant Senior to manage all fiscal aspects of the Division’s grants and contracts. The individual in this position will be responsible for developing all standard operating procedures and policies that are aligned with the Accounting Division’s policies and procedures and handle areas of financial management as it relates to grants, contracts, and budget development. This individual will be responsible for preparing all financial reports required by our grantors, prepare monthly and quarterly reports to management staff and complete any financial information requested by our Accounting Division. This position will also be responsible for retrieving data and information and preparing pre-audit packages for grantors. This individual will work closely with the Division’s management staff, Accounting, Budget, and the Grants office. This individual should be an experienced accounting/finance professional who possesses strong analytical, organizational and communication skills, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. This position requires an individual that is well versed in generally accepted accounting principles, governmental accounting, detailed general ledger functions, account reconciliations, and have extensive knowledge of Microsoft Applications including Word and Excel or similar spreadsheet software and familiarity with computerized accounting systems. The position requires an individual with extensive PeopleSoft experience.
Advanced professional accounting work in the maintenance and review of fiscal records; may supervise staff.
Works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting or finance; or a Bachelor’s degree and coursework that qualifies for the CPA Examination.
Requires two (2) years professional level accounting, finance or closely related experience; including six (6) months of lead/supervisory experience depending on area of assignment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Processes/records financial transactions including reviewing/approving various accounting documents such as journal vouchers and cash receipts.
Reconciles and monitors revenues and expenses of various funds, prepares a variance analysis and prepares schedules for external auditors.
Prepare monthly, quarterly or annual reports required by County Administrative Policies and Procedures and/or external parties.
Review and approve payroll and vendor invoices for the Division.
Prepare sales and fuel returns on a monthly basis.
Assists in the preparation of Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and State of Florida Annual Financial Report.
Maintain customer table, including setting up new customers and/or updating existing customer information for all County agencies.
May assign, review, and approve the work of support and professional staff.
Performs related work as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Experienced in utilizing Microsoft Office and the navigation of electronic health records or web applications that may be required by potential funders.Input information into various web applications and portals based on requirements from funders.
Review and validate information entered into databases and electronic health records.
Generate reports within multiple databases, electronic health records, and web portals.
Identify data trends based on information into various web applications and portals.
Interact with agency staff to troubleshoot and resolve errors relating to data entry.
Determine the proper pay source, based on client eligibility, for the utilization of contract dollars.
Track/manage employee status to ensure proper access is maintained.
Tracking of predetermined performance measures.
Prepare required reports or documents to agency management upon request.
Performs related work as assigned.
