The P.R. associate is an integral part of The New Yorker’s communications team, helping to devise and implement the press strategy for The New Yorker in all its forms—print, digital, video, audio, and live events—and serving as a key liaison between the editorial staff and external press. The P.R. associate works alongside the head of communications and the deputy director of communications to proactively tell the stories that speak to the success of the New Yorker brand, and to respond, as needed, to inbound queries from members of the media. As such, this person must possess excellent writing and communication skills and a deep interest in the stories and issues regularly covered by The New Yorker.

Responsibilities: 

  • Help develop and execute the communications strategy for New Yorker content across mediums and platforms, proactively pitching stories and writers and responding to inbound requests.
  • Work closely with New Yorker writers and editors, as well as external bookers and producers, to manage media appearances and secure press coverage on television, radio, podcast, print, and digital outlets.
  • Produce written materials that are on par with New Yorker standards, including contributions to the weekly issue press release and pitches for external media coverage.
  • Conceptualize, build, and maintain press lists.
  • Track media generated for the magazine, Web site, The New Yorker Radio Hour, and events, as well as for New Yorker writers and editors.
  • Additional duties as required, or as assigned by manager.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Two to three years of journalism or P.R. experience.
  • Strong written, verbal, and diplomatic skills, with a sharp attention to detail.
  • The ability to work quickly and with precision, often managing several projects under deadline.
  • The ability to work with others while also being self-directed and eager to take initiative.
  • Knowledge of The New Yorker and an appreciation for the magazine’s reporting, writers, and history.

The Condé Nast Entertainment (CNE) Global Creative Service team leads the strategy and execution of our marketing communications, both internally and externally, to support the continued growth of CNE overall, and the entertainment division’s many lines of businesses across all Condé Nast brands. This includes, but is not limited to, the Digital Video Network, Audio, and Film & TV.

We are looking for a creative, business-minded, and strategic marketer with deep industry knowledge and a passion for storytelling.

The Senior Manager, Creative Services will be responsible for serving as the primary day-to-day-day marketing lead supporting CNE and its Global portfolio, with a focus on the following divisions/brands:

  • Lifestyle Division: Architectural Digest, Condé Nast Traveler, SELF, etc.

  • Food Division: Bon Appetit, Epicurious

  • Tech Division: WIRED, Ars Technica

In partnership with key CNE stakeholders across all lines of business, the role is charged with developing the narrative and clearly defined positioning around each brand’s business objectives, content strategies, and programming plans into cohesive collateral for a wide range of initiatives. Additionally, the role will focus on helping to identify annual priorities and opportunities to deepen CNE’s position in the marketplace, as well as support the marketing efforts across high priority initiatives in collaboration with key cross-functional teams. The role will report directly to the Senior Director, Global Creative Services.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Partners with and cultivates strong relationships with VP/Director-level stakeholders across CNE, developing a through understanding of their business/brands’ strategies to create effective positioning and messaging frameworks

  • Translate each brand’s annual programming plans and brand tentpole initiatives into marketing collateral that clearly articulates our top-line channel narratives and unique market positioning to inform brand-led/enterprise-level commercial opportunities

  • Develops best in-class marketing and communication materials for internal and external initiatives, events, and/or high visibility meetings including, but not limited to, go-to-market strategies (GTM), pitches, town halls, board meetings, speaker scripts, industry/trade events, and more.

  • Collaborates closely with the Integrated Planning team and stakeholders within the wider Condé Nast organization to develop marketing plans for high priority initiatives, as well as activate executions across the Condé Nast Network

  • Monitor industry/media trends and identify new opportunities to promote and/or elevate CNE’s creative impact, thought leadership and overall position in the marketplace

  • Maintains the CNE Annual Calendar for respective brands and line of business partners

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years experience in brand marketing or marketing communications/PR, preferably in the entertainment, publishing, digital agency, or digital media space

  • Global experience a plus but not required

  • Entrepreneurial, strategic and holistic mindset, eagerness to learn and build, and a reputation as an innovative, adaptable and proactive “doer” with desire to differentiate Condé Nast from the competition

  • Knowledge of the entertainment space and internet culture/digital video landscape (e.g. YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Netflix, etc.), the unique elements of each video platform and what makes particular videos successful on those platforms
