Position Summary
The Girls Write Now Development Director will lead a 25th Anniversary Campaign focused on major gifts and large institutional grants. Deep fundraising and major gifts experience is required—and a proven track record of success. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Development Director will work closely with and be supported by a cross-departmental senior team.
Qualifications
The Development Director will need to be agile with shifting priorities, enjoy learning while doing, and envision and mock up solutions to problems big and small. They must understand the power of interdepartmental collaboration, be able to meet deadlines, and lead others to desired outcomes with clear expectations and instructions. The successful candidate will have high emotional intelligence in order to work in a flexible, sensitive and compassionate manner with a community of diverse stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
Requirements:
- A minimum ten years of professional work experience developing and executing on fundraising and/or marketing initiatives
- Strong track record of managing staff and teams
- Strong project management, administrative, communicative, and technological skills (e.g., Salesforce, WordPress, social media platforms)
- Experience developing, implementing, managing and evaluating complex strategic programs and initiatives in nonprofit and/or academic settings
- Strong systems-orientation and understanding and/or experience with the systems used for survey development, data collection and management of large data sets for the reporting and evaluation of complex strategic programs and initiatives
- Experience building partnerships and individual and institutional stakeholders
- Able to work regular Saturdays and evenings as the program calendar demands
- A Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred in a related field

Girls Write Now is the first writing and mentoring organization for girls and gender-expansive youth. We are a passionate and multi-generational community with a 25 year track record of success.
These positions, all rooted in writing, mentoring, equity and wellness, will lead Girls Write Now through an exciting period of growth as we build a powerhouse of unheard voices across industries. Check out our new positions!
All positions are full-time with a competitive salary and benefits package. Please note all staff are currently remote. Once safety allows, we will resume in-person programming, and staff will be required to be located in New York City.

Girls Write Now Community Manager (writing 360 Focus)
Working in concert with the Community Team, the Community Manager (Writing 360 focus) will lead Writing 360, Girls Write Now’s flagship writing and mentoring program. Key responsibilities include curriculum development, workshop production, program evaluation, staff management, pair management, and enrollment. Candidates must have experience working with youth, plus a comfortability in engaging and managing adults. The Community Manager will maintain the history and integrity of Girls Write Now’s programs while also contributing to its evolution and expansion.
In collaboration with the Director of Curriculum and Engagement and a roster of teaching artists with diverse areas of expertise, the Community Manager will develop multi-genre digital and analogue workshop lesson plans and goals. The ideal candidate will bring their experience and enthusiasm to the technical production of workshops and events. On-camera hosting and facilitating is required. At least 5 years of related professional work, with a proven track record and honed skills for managing people is required. Candidates must be looking to make Girls Write Now their new “home” for, at a minimum, the next 3+ years.
This position requires some Saturdays and evenings.
Girls Write Now Community Manager (publishing 360 Focus)
Publishing 360 is an outgrowth of Writing 360, our flagship program, with a focus on advanced audio, visual, and editorial curriculum, as it relates to our new publishing platform—which is key to Girls Write Now’s growth. The Community Manager (Publishing 360 focus) will be the program’s ambassador and leader, working closely with our Community and Marketing Teams. This program will evolve and grow throughout the year and beyond.
The Community Manager must have experience working with youth, plus a comfortability in engaging and managing adults. A strong editorial sense is crucial in overseeing the Stories section of our content-forward website and co-leading the Editorial Team. Key Responsibilities include editorial leadership, curation, curriculum development, workshop production, program evaluation, staff management, pair management, and enrollment.
