Full Job Description

The Business Analyst for Security Architecture serves an essential function in ensuring the day to day effectiveness of the broader Security Architecture team.  The ideal candidate is a self-starter, ambitious, and a critical thinker; responsibilities will be spread across the day-to-day triage and follow up of intake requests and initiatives, as well as in support of the Architecture team in handling some of the non-Architecture specific security requests.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Participate as a member of the Security Architecture team to engage, align and integrate into key security initiatives.
  • Provide day-to-day coordination, reporting and follow up on company-wide engagements related to Security Architecture initiatives.
  • Assist in the documentation of security standards and alignment to applicable security controls.
  • Familiarity with security frameworks and their objectives- such as NIST CSF, ISO27001, PCI-DSS, or others.
  • General understanding and knowledge of the MITRE ATT&CK and D3FEND Frameworks preferable.
  • Serves as initial point of contact within Security Architecture for initial triage, prioritization, and alignment of inbound or outbound requests.
  • Assists in security project implementation for testing, monitoring, and reporting purposes.
  • Contributes to the evaluation of new or updated security solutions and assess impact of security controls to user experience.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a remote / complex environment.
  • Perform other assignments as required.

Preferred Education & Experience

  • 2 or more years of working in an Information Security / Cybersecurity capacity.
  • 2 or more years working with traditional security tools.
  • Working knowledge and familiarity with cloud platform technologies (AWS, GCP, Azure, O365).
  • Experience supporting and responding to third party or external audits.
  • Experience with standard business processes including Change Management, Problem Management, Work Prioritization, Quality Assurance, and Continuous Improvement best practices, etc.
  • Security certifications (SANS GSEC, CompTIA Security+, etc.) are a plus.

Position Description

*This role typically is located in either our downtown Chicago office or our Lake Forest headquarters, but due to COVID-19 will be fully virtual until further notice.  Once these office locations have a return to work plan, the team member will be required to be on-site.

The Software Asset Manager will be responsible for optimizing Grainger’s utilization of software assets.   This includes understanding entitlements based on vendor contract language, monitoring software usage through Software Asset Management tools, identifying risks or opportunities to optimize and developing strategies to close those risks / opportunities.

The Software Asset Manager will play a key role supporting vendor management and audit defense including analysis driving strategy, briefing executive stakeholders and developing a plan of action for licenses out of compliance.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

• Understand technology contracts clauses and metrics and interpreting product use rights, grants and limits and ensure they are correctly reflected and maintained in the SAM solution.
• Deep analysis of technology usage and an understanding of where to seek usage information.
• Automating the collection of usage and assignment of software assets.
• Clearly communicate license positions and risk to stakeholders across levels and organizations.
• Critical analysis and a willingness to challenge vendor claims during an audit as well as assist with audit resolution.
• Technology vendor audit defense tactics
• Stays informed of new and updated software license models and options for key publisher products and drive decisions regarding software licensing models and terms.
• Manage information inquiries regarding software assets e.g. entitlements, usage, renewals etc.
• Actively assesses risk and cost reduction opportunities and makes recommendations to optimize the software asset portfolio.
• Assist in resolving non-compliance issues, managing license true ups while ensuring existing and planned future usage complies with the use rights
• Manage remediation as it relates to software compliance (i.e. decommissioning, disposal and reclamation of assets from systems).

Position Requirements:

Preferred Education & Experience:

• Management of large enterprise technology vendor contracts.
• Operation and administration of Software Asset Management tooling and data collection.
• Successful audit defense from large technology vendors
• Starting up / practicing in a successful software asset management practice including creating documentation and conducting training.
• Practiced presenter with C-Suite and cross functional stakeholders. Ability to present clearly and concisely verbally and in writing to various audiences including executives
• Strong quantitative, analytical, problem solving skills, including the ability to accumulate, organize, and assimilate large amounts of information.
• Understand basic IT components (infrastructure, software, PCs, Databases) and how they interact.
• Knowledge of product use rights for key publishers such as Oracle, Microsoft, Adobe, SAP, Symantec, IBM, EMC etc.
• Experience with SAM technologies offered by vendors such as Flexera, SNOW or ServiceNow.
• Familiarity with hardware technology and configurations including cloud/virtualization technologies (VMware, XenApp, XenDesktop, AWS etc)
• IAITAM or CSAM certification a plus
• Mindset to continuously improve the SAM processes, reporting and metrics.
Work Environment:
• Minimal to no travel required
• Flexible work arrangements may include working virtual or from any of our Chicago campus locations (Lake Forest, theMart)

Impact:
• Provide impact assessments/advisory on potential architectural changes or projects, outlining incremental or reduction of license / maintenance costs due to changes on license use metrics or product use changes
• Responsible for daily and strategic management and control of the software portfolio in order to optimize the value, cost and risk of software.  This includes identifying saving opportunities through software re-harvesting and license optimization.
• Manage software compliance from legal and financial risks.

Working Relationships:
• Reports directly to the Enterprise Architect II
• Demonstrated experience with geographically distributed teams in a matrixed environment
• The manager will engage with Procurement, Legal, Finance, Vendor Manager, Product Managers (Software Owners), Architects, Administrators, Engineers, Project and Program managers to help collect, organize and obtain critical information required for the management of software assets.
