Full Job Description

Lead and direct employees providing and supporting patient care through the continuum of the surgical process. Develop, assess and improve service plans. Partner with medical staff and administrative leaders to attain key strategic objectives. Meet department cost, quality and service goals.
Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develops, assesses and improves service plans to respond to customer expectations and organizational objectives. Develops, implements and monitors standards for clinical and technical excellence. Works collaboratively with WPMG and other medical staff and operations leaders to attain service objectives.
  • Develops and interprets financial, utilization and service quality reports and provides leadership utilizing current and projected data to facilitate decision making. Recruits, hires, orients, leads, manages, develops, disciplines and terminate employees when necessary. Prepares and presents performance evaluations. Establishes staff development and training plans. Monitors progress of skill development.
  • Work collaboratively with Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington and other medical staff and operations leaders to attain service objectives.
  • Builds effective communication systems to support the clear flow of information across multiple service locations. Ensures staff awareness of KFHPW, state and Medicare regulations and policies.
  • Organizes, facilitates, coordinates and participates on departmental, division and KFHPW-wide committees and work teams.

  • Diagnostic Testing: Performs quality images through clinical protocols and positions patients to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patients comfort and ability. Demonstrates knowledge to perform Ultrasound procedures with appropriate equipment. Develops films in accordance with radiographic techniques. Evaluates images for technical quality, assuring proper identification is recorded. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide radiology services to all age groups served. Provides patient education on procedures according to age-specific needs. Facilitates patients cooperation and alleviates anxiety by addressing concerns. Verifies appropriate procedure to be performed by checking physicians orders and outpatient prescriptions. Contacts physicians with discrepancies. Ensures appropriate documentation is completed prior to procedure. Assist Radiologists with procedures as needed.
  • Customer Service: Provides timely, responsive, expert services to customers in a positive friendly manner, to include patient, physicians, and other fellow employees. Informs consumers and those accompanying them when delays exist and how they are being addressed. Promotes patient focused care throughout daily activities. Provides quality patient care to include preparation, scheduling, and teaching all types of patient procedures as needed. Maintains strict patient and employee confidentiality, as appropriate.
  • Patient and Employee Safety: No deviation from written procedures in Policy and Procedure Manual on radiation safety rules. Performs all necessary equipment checks prior to use, thereby protecting patient and staff safety. Ensures patient and regulatory standards are adhered to and suggests ways to improve patient outcomes when indicated. Completes quality assurance and quality control activities as appropriate. Establishes patients identification. Ensures no repeat studies due to failure to check armband and/or properly identified patient. Observes patient during procedures and reports any unusual occurrences or changes in patients condition to appropriate personnel. Ascertains allergy status on patients, for patients receiving medications.Demonstrates educated and rapid response to contrast reactions as outlined in Policy and Procedure Manual. Assists in performing first aid as necessary, including Code 199 procedures and locating equipment on crash carts.
  • General Behavior: Observes patient during procedures and reports any unusual occurrences or changes in condition. Arrives at the start of the assigned shift ready to begin work; takes lunch and breaks at appropriate times, and leaves work at the end of the assigned shift. Maintains neat, clean and well stock radiology room. Identifies staff training issues and participates in Policy and procedures development as appropriates. Communicates concerns as appropriate to lead technologists and management. Works as an effective team member with other colleagues to efficiently perform radiological procedures. Rotates shifts and assignments as required. Rotation will include surgery and portables for Specialty and Hospital staff. Takes stand-by call as assigned. Provide nursing care to a defined group of patients on an on-call basis, adhering to Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington ambulatory Nursing Care Standards, the Nursing Code of Ethics and Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington policies. Manage the coordinated appointing process and serve as a communication link between patients, affected departments and the practice team. Update patient contact information, ensuring HIPAA compliance, and verify financial information. Provide customer service and manage expectations of patients and staff. Manage block time for surgical and procedural clinics and complete clerical duties and medical forms required. Provide routine patient instruction.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Scheduling: Scheduling of patient appointments, procedural and/or diagnostic/surgery dates that require coordination of multiple providers, services and/or facilities. Coordinates and/or completes all associated forms/surgical packets necessary for the procedure(s) and assures appropriate disposition. Provides routine patient instructions. Updates computer systems and or white boards with the pertinent information. Communicates effectively with patients, the practice team and related departments both internally and externally.
  • Provides initial financial screening and refers patient to the business office or financial counselor if required. Works with the financial counselor to assure all services are covered and/or financial agreements are in place. Assures referrals are placed through computerized systems in a timely manner. Coordinates with RMS and business office to assure all referrals requiring pre-authorizations are processed prior to procedures being scheduled.
  • Provides excellent customer service through prompt phone and in-clinic response management. Provides clear instructions, maps and other supportive documents to patients. Acts as a single point of contact for questions and routes to appropriate clinician.
