Full Job Description

The Data Scientist will support and contribute to the analytics direction to help us gain an understanding of our data and analytics journey. This position will partner with Marketing business leads and identify the appropriate data models to answer business questions – ranging from descriptive to prescriptive deliverables.  This role will help to lead the creation of customer profiles, build predictive data models and define how to utilize tools to conduct analysis.   This position is highly cross-functional and will work across many business units including Marketing, Information Technology, Operations and outside partner organizations.

To be successful in this role, the Data Scientist will need strong analytics knowledge, analytics programming proficiency, succinct and easy-to-understand communication and be proactive and self-motivated with an orientation towards delivering insights that move the business forward.  The candidate should have the ability to help the business articulate their critical questions, establish learning plans and formulate hypotheses, establish appropriate KPIs/metrics and develop reports and dashboards to illuminate results and insights.

Key Responsibilities: 
Lead the analytics’ projects driven by business objectives
Develop, execute and assess business and customer performance
Provide actionable, data driven insights based on business objectives
Create on-going reporting, dashboards, and tools to support on-going analysis
Explore data using a variety of advanced statistical (e.g., data mining) techniques and tools to answer business questions.
Extend data by identifying internal, external, and third-party data sources needed for analytics
Work with internal IT teams to combine, enhance and validate data collection procedures
Process, clean and verify data integrity; conduct ad hoc advanced analytics techniques.
Manipulate and investigate large and complex datasets; formulate data requirements and model specifications needed for analytics.
Combine business acumen with mathematical capabilities to build complex data models to support business partner objectives and business information needs.
Incorporate findings and provides industry and competitor insights as part of model development and enhancement.
Provide peer review related to analytics methods and results
Continuously seek out knowledge of analytical methods, tools, and databases

Minimum Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: 

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Math, Analytics, Statistics, Economics, Engineering. Computer Science, quantitative discipline or equivalent.
  2.  5+ years’ experience in and solid knowledge of analytics and data mining techniques.
  3. Sophisticated understanding of complex data models including from descriptive to prescriptive analytics concepts.
  4. Strong understanding and experience with online and offline data; champion and excite teams on data-driven solutions.
  5. Highly effective communication skills.  Positive, can-do attitude; ability to be flexible and open to changes in requirements, directions or circumstances with minimal need for reorientation.
  6. Ability to work effectively as part of a team, and with all levels of management.
  7. Strong experience with data mining, quantitative analytics, insights creation and delivering/presenting results and recommendations.
  8. Strong leadership and change management skills.
  9. Work comfortably with ambiguity and in a fast-paced environment.
  10. Demonstrated success in working with and influencing stakeholders, business partners cross-functionally.
  11. Proficient in Python and R.
  12. Experience with open source packages for modeling and data processing, relational databases and SQL skills, cloud infrastructures and/or software engineering.
  13. Working knowledge of visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI.

Preferred Skills:

  1. Master’s degree in Math, Analytics, Statistics, Economics, Engineering. Computer     Science, quantitative discipline or equivalent.
