Position description

The Medical Surgical/Oncology Department provides care to adults with a wide variety of conditions involving medical, surgical and oncology. Staff have training and expertise to provide compassionate care to those ranging from young adults to end of life.The Medical Surgical/Oncology staff of over 100 Registered Nurses and Patient Care Assistants work in a fast paced 40 bed unit where excellent care is provided to a variety of patient populations, while specializing in Oncology. This diverse patient population provides staff with great growth and learning opportunities, while building their knowledge base and professional development.

The Patient Care Assistant assists staff with delegated tasks of direct and indirect patient care which supports and complements nursing practice under the supervision of a registered nurse. The Patient Care Assistant carries out delegated skills that are within those functions limited by law to unlicensed nursing personnel.

Qualifications

18 years old and completion of 12 college credits or High school Diploma/GED with successful completion of a Nursing Assistant training or equivalent.Additional qualifications

Certified Nursing Assistant on State of Wisconsin Nurse Aide Registry in “non-expired” status (preferred). Patient care skills, knowledge of infection control and safety procedures, medical terminology, strong verbal and written communication skills. Requires independent judgment, a high level of motivation, accountability, flexibility, interest in patient care, and compassion for people.License or certification

Maintains current Basic Life Support for Health Care Provides from one of the following programs; American Heart Association or American Red Cross. If a candidate does not currently have their Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers from one of the following programs: American Heart Association or American Red Cross the Basic Life Support, certification will be included as part of the orientation program.Exemption status

Position description:- The licensed practical nurse (LPN) provides nursing care to assigned patients under the direct supervision of the registered nurse (RN) or other assigned supervisor and accepts delegation from the RN/assigned supervisor in meeting the needs of the patient/family. The LPN collects data through observation and communicates information to assist the RN and/or provider in patient assessment and care planning. The LPN participates as a member of the health care team and accepts delegation from the RN/assigned supervisor and provider in meeting needs of the patient/family. The LPN delivers care in accordance with the patient care plan, policies and procedures of the organization and principles of relationship-based care. The LPN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and instructing; and may participate on committees or projects, including quality improvement projects.

Qualifications
Graduate of a school of practical nursing or passed LPN Boards after a defined period in a professional nursing program.

If graduation did not occur within the last two years, one year of LPN experience working in an applicable setting is required.
Additional qualifications

  • One year of Family Medicine, Primary Care, or Pediatric clinical experience as an LPN preferred.
  • One year LPN experience within the last five years preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Computer skills required, prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred.
  • Ability to work daytime hours, flexibility may be required to meet staffing needs.
  • Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing preferred.
  • Internal applicants are required to attach their three most recent performance appraisals.

License or certification:- Current LPN license by applicable state requirements. Arizona and Florida: Maintains current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers. Midwest: Maintains current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers from one of the following programs: American Heart Association or American Red Cross. Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area.
