Position Description:

Durham-Technology consists of the Automation/MES, Deviation Management, Manufacturing Technical Operations, Validation, and New Product Technical Transfer Departments.

The Associate Specialist – Process Engineer will support one of these Technical Departments. The Durham Technical Department is a team of dedicated engineers who strive to understand, monitor, improve and support the transfer of our manufacturing processes. Within these groups, there are opportunities to support day-to-day activities and strategic projects to ensure the Durham Bulk and Formulation/Filling facilities operate Right-First-Time in a cost-effective manner, and to ensure on-going Technical Transfer activities to the site meet the financial and timeline requirements for the vaccine programs. This role requires daily problem solving with other Technical CoE groups, Operations, and Quality. The successful candidate will be expected to be a first responder to requests from the manufacturing areas when support is needed.The well-qualified candidate must have analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. In this role, the candidate will provide support for the manufacturing of aseptic products. Furthermore, the candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment. Off-shift or weekend coverage may occasionally be required to support the technical team, based on project-specific assignments and/or the vaccine production schedule.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Accountable for delivering on Durham manufacturing objectives
  • Accountable for providing technical support to Durham current and pipeline vaccine manufacturing
  • Lead technical and business system process improvement projects
  • Lead troubleshooting and resolution of unplanned events to ensure a reliable supply of Durham manufactured vaccines
  • Author technical documentation

Position Qualifications:

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering or Sciences by May/Jun 2021

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Ability to perform aseptic gowning during the execution of job duties

The Maurice R. Hilleman Center for Vaccine Manufacturing is located in Durham, NC. This state-of-the-art facility established in 2004, manufactures our Company lifesaving vaccines in bulk and finished forms. Due to the importance of this facility in our Company Vaccine Manufacturing network, the facility has seen rapid growth in production volumes and new employees over the last several years; currently Durham employs 1,000+ people.

 

Durham’s Technician, Operations will be responsible for supporting the manufacturing process through hands on production in fermentation and purification processes, as well as sterile assembly and supply. This position will support the vaccine drug substance site readiness, commissioning and qualification through licensure and ramp up to full production. This position will support all Operations areas. Off-shift and weekend coverage will be required based on business unit needs and specific assignments.

 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Support operations production through start-up and commissioning and qualification through licensure and ramp up
  • Working in conjunction with all appropriate personnel, performs manual and automated operations, general maintenance and support functions necessary for production

The Operations Technician position is available at our Animal Health facility in Elkhorn, Nebraska, located on the West end of Omaha. The Elkhorn facility is expanding operations to manufacture animal vaccines and biologics. Looking for talented individuals to join our Production teams using key technologies for cell culture, filling and packaging.

Description:

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures quality product by knowing and maintaining company and Departmental standards and procedures.
  • Perform sterile operations according to Standard Production Processes (SPPs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), documentation practices must be performed in a concurrent, legible and consistent basis
  • Prepare cell and viral cultures within flasks, roller bottles in large quantities (1000+ cultures per day), this process is labor intensive and requires ability to push and pull large tanks, open and close large amount of roller bottles, lift trash bags and move large racks up to 20+ times a day.
  • Sanitization or sterilization of designated areas and equipment, requiring work with cleaners and attention to small details while cleaning
  • Troubleshoot and perform adjustments of equipment as required. • Ensure all assigned equipment and components are staged for assigned operation.
  • Maintain documentation and other duties as assigned. Sterile processes are performed in small labs with up to three other technicians at the same time.
  • Technicians will be required to wear full aseptic gown including hood, suite, boots, gloves, mask and googles.
  • Some operations will be performed wearing a respirator which can reduce visibility. Must be able to work in a team environment, be able to also complete assigned tasks independently, be reliable and on time.

  • Ability to lift 50lbs on an intermittent basis

Full Job Description

This department packages goods for various forms. Individuals in this role will be required to carry weight for up to 35 pounds and the ability to keep track of produce items. The role includes paying attention to detail and enduring proper communication is transferred to the supervisor. English/Spanish is not required but will help the overall job.

Key Functions:

  • Gathering of raw material.
  • Repackaging of materials.
  • Accurate counting of finished goods produced.
  • Ability to lift 35lbs.
  • Shift: 2:00pm-10:00pm Mon-Fri, some weekends if necessary.

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Packing, or assembly line experience.
  • High School Diploma/GED or 6-months working in an assembly line.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Packing, Assembly-line, and warehouse.

Our Computational and Structural Chemistry group, which is a diverse and inclusive team of approximately 90 computational chemists, informaticians, structural, and protein scientists who employ state of the art capabilities to drive drug design, is seeking a creative, self-motivated Computational Chemist with exceptional interpersonal and problem-solving skills to join our group in West Point, PA.

The successful candidate will join highly collaborative, multidisciplinary teams working to discover some of tomorrow’s most important drugs.  As part of our company, you will have the opportunity to improve human health while developing your knowledge and skills through close collaboration with talented colleagues.

Specifically, your responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out virtual screening to identify novel hit compounds.
  • Assessing hits from cutting-edge screening technologies.
  • Using molecular docking to evaluate and prioritize novel molecules for synthesis.
  • Characterizing the conformational properties of molecules.
  • Using molecular simulation to understand complex phenomena and predict binding affinities.
  • Leveraging your learnings to design new molecules.
  • Defining best practices for the use of machine learning approaches on your teams.
  • Enhancing our modeling capabilities through research in new areas relevant to drug discovery and development.

Required Education:

  • Ph.D. (or very close to Ph.D. completion) in chemistry, biophysics, biochemistry, or equivalent with a computational emphasis and 0-3 years of industrial computational chemistry experience or a M.S. with 4 or more years of industrial computational chemistry experience.

Required Experience and Skills: 

  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • A robust track record of publications, presentations, and speaking engagements
  • A commitment to inclusive behaviors
  • The ability to work well in global, multidisciplinary teams and influence projects in a cross-functional manner
  • The ability to perform in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Evidence of creative application of computational approaches to problems of pharmaceutical interest

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Expertise in modern molecular modeling techniques (e.g. docking, molecular simulation, homology modeling, quantum mechanics, QSAR / machine learning, ligand- and structure-based design) with modern software packages (e.g. Schrodinger, OpenEye, CCG)
  • Proficiency in scientific programming (e.g. Python, Pipeline Pilot) and data analytics (e.g. Spotfire)
