Responsibilities:

  • Monitor metal detectors, metal detection wands to scan visitors, personal items, and packages for unauthorized items. Monitor and authorize visitors accessing Bank facilities and records visitor data on appropriate logs. Monitor surveillance equipment and other specialized equipment.   • Patrols building and reports unusual situation or unauthorized individuals. Monitor departments for safety or security violations, and reports findings to shift supervisor and prepares incident reports. Respond to general alarms and secures building until alarm has been canceled.
  • Maintain proficiency in use of personal computer (PC) and related software, computerized access and control systems, video surveillance equipment, x-ray and metal screening equipment, several alarms systems and Automated External Defibrillators. Maintain knowledge of current trends and technological developments in the Law Enforcement field.
  • Maintain proficiency in areas such as weapons (lethal and non-lethal), first aid, CPR, firefighting techniques, civil disorders, and public relations. Must exhibit spontaneous good judgment over life and safety issues (shoot and don’t-shoot scenarios, discrete handling of detected weapons and explosive devices, when to employ use of life saving and rescue equipment).
  • Inspect credentials and identification of employees and visitors and ensure that only authorized personnel and vehicles are permitted access to the facility.
  • Use electronic metal detectors and x-ray machines in the physical search of persons, packages, briefcases, and luggage. entering the building, being especially alert for weapons, explosive devices and other prohibited items.
  • Programs and maintains data in the access control system.
  • Enforce federal and state law and the administrative rules and regulations of the Bank. Make apprehensions, participates in subsequent court or administrative processes.
  • Work with employees and the public.
  • Monitor security systems and devices to detect the planning or preparation of acts that may threaten the safety or security of the Bank and its contents, and employees and visitors and their personal property.
  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service by responding to or contacting complainants, victims, and suspects.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations and take initial report/complaint. Prepare and submit required reports consistent with Division policy.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records for files, follow-up investigations, and court purposes. Take command at crime scenes or accidents and administer first aid.
  • Remain compliant with all FRS and Bank training requirements and maintains Federal Reserve Law Enforcement Officer certification.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of relevant military, law enforcement or armed security experience with at least one year of full-time experience as a sworn law enforcement officer.

Minimum Qualifications
A two or four-year degree from an education program certified by the Minnesota Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Board and remain actively licensed during employment.  Police officers from other states must pass a reciprocity exam through the POST Board.  Candidates must be eligible to be licensed as a peace officer by the Minnesota POST Board by January 1, 2022.  Candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment background investigation as well as possess a valid U.S. Driver’s license with a good driving record.  Candidates who receive a conditional job offer must pass a psychological exam and a fitness for duty physical exam.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a law enforcement agency.  Candidates with prior relevant sworn law enforcement experience will participate in an abbreviated field training program and are eligible to be hired at up to the 24 months of service step and receive the 36 month/top police officer rate after 12 months and the successful completion of probation.  2021 hourly pay rates range from $30.88 to $44.16.

About the Job

Description of Position
Police Officers are responsible for patrolling property owned, leased, or operated by the Regents of the University of Minnesota; providing a safe environment for University students, staff, faculty, and visitors; responding to emergency and non-emergency calls for service; for enforcing applicable statutes and ordinances; for providing emergency medical assistance; for working with the University community to increase safety through collaboration, problem solving, and education; and other duties as assigned.  Police officers may also be assigned to investigative or other specialty assignments such as bike patrol or motorcycle patrol.

50% – Patrol assigned area on foot, bicycle, motorcycle, or patrol car while interacting with the community and delivering service.*

Work Environment
The work is primarily performed on a large and urban university campus.  Police Officers work in demanding and extreme physical environments and may be required to be in dangerous situations that pose a risk to their personal safety and health, such as incidents involving the threat of, or actual use of, a dangerous or deadly weapon by another individual.  Police Officers must be able to work all times of the day and every day of the year.  They must also be able to work in various types of weather and disasters conditions.

• Responsible for removing graffiti at locations provided by the supervisor and those he/she

• Ability to match paints using spectrophotometer and operate all functions of graffiti vehicles.

• Work with graffiti removal chemicals.
• Maintain communication with fellow workers regarding information for the acquisition of paints

• Responsible for maintenance of graffiti vehicles and equipment therein.
• Responsible for sharing information relative to identifying graffiti removal and patterns.
• Ability to provide support, interface with violation and citation process within the antiblight initiative.
