Full Job Description

Primary Purpose of the Position:

The Northeast Senior Program Manager identifies, develops and implements multiple, complex advocacy campaigns to defend and enhance parks in alignment with NPCA’s strategic plan. As a part of this work, the Senior Program Manager will lead and support external coalitions; evaluate political opportunities and make recommendations about state and federal policies; reach and engage new and diverse audiences and existing supporters in advocacy; and connect people to national parks. The Northeast Senior Program Manager, working with the Senior Regional Director and other Northeast team members, engages in priority issues at the local, state, and federal levels, develops technical comments on agency documents, and communicates campaign progress internally and externally. They will connect new audiences with decision makers who can affect positive outcomes in support of national parks throughout the northeast region. In coordination with the Northeast team and Regional Development Director, the Sr. Program Manager engages donors including Regional Council members, Trustees for the Parks, and institutional/foundation representatives. This person will travel throughout the northeast region as needed. The Sr. Program Manager will also participate in and contribute to NPCA-wide priorities, including programs surrounding Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI), and building NPCA brand awareness.

Essential Functions: % of Time

1. In collaboration with the Northeast team, fight threats to park resources and gateway communities and advance opportunities for conservation, expanded access, interpretation and relevancy and funding, staffing and technical support for national parks in the region, focused on Maine and other New England states. This includes evaluating local politics, attending hearings, developing technical public comments, leading coalitions and collaborating with key partners and community groups, educating and lobbying decision-makers, and engaging with NPCA’s network of advocates on issues related to protecting and preserving national parks in the Northeast region. 50%

2. Evaluate and provide recommendations to the Sr. Regional Director and other Northeast regional staff on local, state, and federal policies and legislation that may be relevant to national parks throughout the region or to the organization as a whole. Create presentations, factsheets, blog posts, and field report articles in support of these activities.   15%

3. Serve as a spokesperson for advocacy campaigns before decision makers, the public and the media including digital communications platforms, interviews, printed materials, etc. Contribute to the development of fact sheets, Field Reports, activist alerts, and other communication tools to educate elected officials, key leaders/stakeholders, NPCA members, donors, regional council members, and the general public. Write/contribute to internal campaign communications and updates.   15%

4. Contribute to the Northeast regional team’s fundraising efforts by identifying and maintaining relationships with donors and foundations, help write proposals and reports, marketing NPCA programs to existing and potential donors in the region and helping NPCA’s travel program build enticing itineraries that showcase regional work and accomplishments.  10%

5. Supervise, mentor, and collaborate with interns, volunteers, partners, consultants, and research fellows. Assist in designing intern projects, conduct project assessments/evaluations and mentor others to climb NPCA’s ladder of engagement. Participate in regional staff meetings, organization-wide meetings, training programs (i.e., JEDI, tribal learning experiences and campaign trainings), as well as other meetings as requested. Submit timely routine and episodic internal reports. Other duties as assigned.   10%

Minimum Qualifications, Competencies, Skills, Education, and Traits:

-5-6 years’ lived or work experience and/or bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as  natural resources/environmental science, cultural resources, anthropology, political science or communications. Law degree or other graduate-level degree or lived experience preferred.

-Proven ability to manage concurrent, complex campaigns.

-Proven ability to build relationships across political and interest boundaries and work well with a variety of individuals and organizations each with varying backgrounds, and to build and lead coalitions.

-Knowledge of indigenous/tribal issues, state and federal water and land use policies and funding sources in the region is preferred.

-Proven written and oral communications skills, including one on one, in groups, and in public presentations.

-Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work with multiple teams to organize tasks, set, and observe priorities, and maintain schedules. Ability to work independently.

Primary Purpose of the Position:

The Video Production Manager will be responsible for creating short-form videos in support of NPCA’s mission and campaigns, with a primary emphasis on engaging, entertaining and discoverable content optimized for placement on YouTube. The Manager will have primary responsibility for identifying opportunities, researching and storyboarding, procuring footage, editing and releasing video content. The Manager must be able to set and meet deadlines to ensure regular content releases.

Collaborating with the rest of the Communications team, the Manager will assist in planning and managing large-scale video projects created by outside contractors as well as social video (i.e., TikTok and Reels). The Manger will also be responsible for capturing new footage as appropriate, using NPCA’s digital videography equipment, with some travel required.
