Function/Duties of Position

The Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) Department of Diagnostic Radiology is seeking a full-time board-certified radiologist to join our team at Hillsboro Medical Center, located in the western Portland metropolitan area.

Candidates should be comfortable reading all radiology modalities, including mammography and PET scans, and performing light interventional procedures, such as breast biopsies and CT- and ultrasound-guided drainages/biopsies.

The position offers equal salary and vacation time with partners, starting from day 1. OHSU provides a competitive salary, along with a production bonus, CME allowance, moving expenses, and an extensive benefits package.

Call is one in five, with mostly 4-day work weeks. Hours are generally 8 am to 4 pm with overnight nighthawk coverage from 6 pm to 8 am. The team covers one hospital and one imaging center in Hillsboro, Oregon.

Required Qualifications

  • MD or equivalent
  • ABR board certifying eligible after passing the ABR Core Exam and successful completion of an ACGME-accredited residency
  • International Medical Graduates are eligible for the position provided they have a valid ECFMG certificate, have completed an ACGME-accredited residency and ABR Core Exam, or are otherwise board-eligible through the ABR IMG Alternate Pathway program

Preferred Qualifications

  • MSK fellowship is preferred, but not required

Function/Duties of Position

Screen patients for and obtain/record patient’s chief complaint, take accurate history of illnesses/surgeries (Ophthalmic and General), past ocular history, family history, drug allergies, and medications.  Assist physician with completing/transferring patient information to the patient problem list as required per JCAHPO.  Perform ophthalmic testing as appropriate per patient.  This includes but is not limited to checking/documenting distance and near vision in adults and children with and without correction, clearly determining from patient history if the patient is needing new glasses on any given visit.  Pupillary assessment to rule out afferent defect and to check pupil size (rule out asymmetry), corneal curvature, corneal pachymetry, corneal topography, color vision testing, must be proficient in performing lensometry including reading lenses with multifocal and progressive adds, power of sphere, axis of cylinder and cylinder power, and orientation. Perform Tonopen to check intraocular pressure (occasionally check by applanation tonometry).  Perform confrontation visual fields.  Must be proficient in refraction. Must be able to perform cover/uncover test, alternate cover test.  Must be able to perform Stereopsis test.  Must be able to perform BAT, Glare Testing.  Instill dilating and other ophthalmic drops per physician’s instructions.

Assist doctors during examination as needed including scribing using Epic where indicated.  Prepare for, set up and assist in minor surgical, and laser procedures (YAG).  Provide patient instruction, education and assistance as required.  Always be willing to assist patients in clinic areas.  Per standard guidelines, clean exam lanes and minor surgical instruments. Prepare instruments to be sent for sterilization.  Responsible for room maintenance including cleaning of exam lanes.  Keep rooms stocked with appropriate instruments, as well as necessary ophthalmic drops, per physician’s direction. This position also has the opportunity to train and work in the laser center assisting in refractive and other corneal surgeries. Other duties include, triaging patient calls, apply eye dressings, protective shields and safety glasses; as directed by physician, pend medication refills, and clean contact lenses.

Take tech calls as needed to assist front desk scheduling team, refill pharmacy requests as per physician guidelines; fax/send glasses prescriptions as indicated.   Set up ophthalmic examination rooms, stock supplies as necessary.

Perform other duties as assigned. i.e. clinic auditing/surveys, training new employees, etc.

Certification:  Participate in continuing education courses and activities, maintain current JCAHPO certification.  Have knowledge of and be able to practice JCAHPO clinical guidelines.  Demonstrate competence in all required skills during yearly skills evaluation.

Customer Service:  Provides high-quality customer service to patients, OHSU faculty, and referring providers, including PCP’s and their office staff, insurance providers in requesting referrals, and co-workers and staff as well as setting an example in training new employees.  Maintains a high standard of patient interactions skills and is exemplary in addressing patient complaints when necessary.

Required Qualifications

Completion of an accredited training program such as Ophthalmic Technician Program, Ophthalmic Medical Personnel Training Program, Eye Care Assistant Program,  Ophthalmic Assistant Program, Ophthalmic Clinical Assistant Program, Ophthalmic Medical Assistant Program, Ophthalmic Medical Technology; OR

AA in Ophthalmic Technology from an accredited school; OR

Current certification as a certified ophthalmic technician (COA) or higher; OR

BA/BS or in Health Care, Science or Research related field AND 1 year of clinical/lab experience conducting preliminary screening/vision testing to include specialized tests and visual fields; OR

2 years of clinical/lab experience conducting preliminary screening/vision testing to include specialized tests and visual fields

BLS certification through American Heart Association (AHA), provider level. Initial certification is the responsibility of the employee. Renewal certification classes/cost provided by OHSU if job required.

Preferred Qualifications

Administrative/medical office experience preferred.  Working knowledge of medical terminology highly desireable.

COA certification from completion of 2-year program, and COT certification.

Function/Duties of Position:

The Cashier meets customers, receives monies and makes change in exchange for goods or services; operates a cash register or keeps a cash box. May be required to balance cash and other methods of payment to revenue at shift-end.
This is the first level of a two-level series. This class is distinguished from the higher level by the absence of responsibility for allocating received monies to accounts. At this level, responsibility for the verification of amounts received is limited to verifying an ending cash balance. Employees in this class do not need the knowledge of OHSU payment policies and procedures necessary at the second level.
Cashiers are responsible for helping customers through the entire visit and OHSU Marquam cafes. They interact with customers, great them, inform them of specific menu items, help them find things and make decisions. Ring up their purchase, instruct them to condiment areas, answer general questions about our department and provide directions to other places on Marquam Hill.
Cashiers also stock restaurant items and clean while not ringing in customers. Cashiers may also participate in preparing simple recipes and other food service worker duties including serving food and cleaning up after events.

Required Qualifications:

  • Prior work experience or training as a cashier
  • Food handlers Card
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Food service experience in healthcare
  • ServSafe certification
  • 2 years cashiering experience
