Full Job Description

Since we first opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely – and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take a payment and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together. So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions – to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, run a busy kitchen, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. And across it all, we’ve embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow all in one place.

Today, we’re a partner to sellers of all sizes – large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex commerce operations, sellers just starting out, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers scale, so do our solutions. We all grow together.

There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We’re building a business that is big, meaningful, and lasting. And we are helping sellers around the world do the same.

Square is looking for an experienced Associate Creative Director to join our Editorial + Content Marketing Brand Creative Team. You will work with multiple partners across design, copy writing, production, and marketing to guide our business, brand and company mission forward. The Content Marketing ACD will be a brain trust for the content marketing team, partnering with them to solve business problems for their channels and helping the team find new ways to bring their strategies and stories to life.

This is a hands-on creative leadership role with an opportunity to influence our most visible brand channels. You will have an understanding of existing and prospect audiences as well as category trends. You will help propose content, creative, and messaging that resonates with these audiences. You’ll be asked to connect dots, organize thoughts, and develop plans to match the teams’ expectations. We work across the latest platforms, covering web and mobile experiences, visual design, experiential installations, photography, video, and animation.

You will originate new and substantive ideas that define a unique perspective to our brand storytelling — you’re aware and avoid the oversaturated, obvious, and stereotypical tropes. You should be a self-starter and an early adopter with a stable tenacity in the face of ambiguity. Our team exists to tell the best possible stories of our brand, products, and ecosystem, so that our sellers can empower their businesses to excel and grow.

You Will:

  • Work with partners to lead internal creative processes for content delivery
  • Translate brand strategy into powerful and purposeful creative concepts
  • Oversee and, when needed, design graphic concepts, styleframes, assets, and visual treatments across different media and marketing channels
  • Use customer and industry data to inspire creative concepts, content ideas, and work with strategists to validate
  • Foster partnerships with program management and a cross-discipline team of designers, writers, art directors, marketing, and channel partners
  • Manage and help grow a small team of designers, art directors, and writers at various levels
  • Champion brand standards and design systems
  • Motivate and encourage the team to ensure the work is the best it can be, maintaining a high level of creative execution while meeting the needs of our partners
  • Work with producers, project, and program managers to develop project plans and ensure that projects are progressing and creative is delivered
  • Deliver outstanding art direction, photography direction, videography direction, design, typography & branding application direction.

Qualifications

You Have:

  • 8+ years of relevant experience, 3+ in a management role (as this role will have direct report responsibilities)
  • Experience translating data and insights into creative content in meaningful ways
  • A portfolio that showcases applicable work experience
  • Working knowledge/experience or interest in topics related to business, tech, financial, entrepreneurial communities and culture both domestic and international
  • Experience pushing a brand forward with fresh, evolving, creative ideas
  • Understanding of industry trends and today’s creative landscape—how users engage with content, and trends within the marketing
  • Advanced design and art direction skills that cover multiple creative projects
  • Familiarity with new and traditional brand channels and media
  • Experience partnering with teams of designers, copywriters, program managers and product marketers
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience managing or providing mentorship to creatives while still advancing individual assignments and goals
