Full Job Description

The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts and the Department of Mathematics at the University of Michigan invite applications for a Lecturer I position at 100% effort for the Fall 2022 term. The teaching responsibility for this position is three courses per term. The initial contract is for one term. Criteria for selection and for renewal are excellence in teaching in active learning classroom environments, and the ability to work productively within the existing course structure and with faculty and staff administering the course.   Interest and activity in pedagogical research is encouraged but not essential for reappointment.

Required Qualifications*

The successful candidate is likely to have either a doctorate or equivalent credentials in Mathematics, and experience in teaching mathematics at the collegiate level.

Desired Qualifications*

Preference will be given to candidates with will have a Ph.D. in the mathematical sciences, and extensive experience teaching at the university level.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.

Summary

Call Center Representative will be responsible for handling inbound and outbound calls. The representatives will be responsible for answering questions, scheduling appointments and surgeries, assisting multiple Michigan Medicine medical departments as needed.

Responsibilities*

  • Provide top notch customer service through an inbound/outbound call center environment. Demonstrate customer service excellence in answering incoming phones and retrieval of voicemail messages.
  • Schedule patient appointments and procedures in a timely and accurate manner while informing, and inform patients of any necessary preparation needs in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Gather and verify patient information demographics, insurance information and authorizations, referring and/or primary care physician information and other pertinent information as appropriate.
  • Initiate, route, and follow-up on correspondences with clinicians regarding patient information. May include utilizing including efficient use of the electronic health record system in-boxes.
  • Request and obtain accurate and timely health records from outside providers to support continuity of care.
  • Prepare patient itineraries and assemble and mail patient information packets.
  • Efficiently perform general office duties, including faxing, imaging documents, mail sorting and delivery.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must adhere to a high standard of personal and professional conduct; possess excellent customer service, interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills; and demonstrated ability to interact with a diverse population.
  • Must be an active team player with the ability to work independently; possess strong organization and prioritization skills; ability to handle multiple responsibilities in a fast paced environment, and demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Reasonable clerical experience, including familiarity with MS Word and Excel.

Associate: 

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 0 – 2 years of experience, including some customer service experience preferred.

Intermediate: 

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 2 – 3 years of experience, including reasonable customer service experience.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in the healthcare industry.
  • 3-5 years in high volume telephone-based/call center customer service experience (or 3-5 yrs of medical or clinical administration experience).
  • 2-3 years of patient scheduling or medical administrative experience in a high volume environment.
  • Demonstrated ability of strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a self-directed manner while interacting with patients, health system faculty and staff, and managed care organizations.
  • Proactively participates in continuous work improvements efforts including identifying ways to reduce wastes and costs.
  • Experience working with a team and demonstrating excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently in an ever-changing and potentially stressful environment.

Work Schedule

This position is a full time Monday – Saturday. The shift will be determined by the unit leader but hours will range between 7:30am – 7pm.

Work Locations

Each representative will become eligible to work remotely following a series of mandatory Michigan Medicine training. Each representative will agree to adhere to all Michigan Medicine’s virtual office policies.

As an integral part of Facilities and Operations, the Department of Logistics, Transportation, and Parking (LTP) provides logistics, transportation, and parking options in support of the University’s primary mission of teaching, research, patient care and community service.

Responsibilities*

  • Collect parking fees by operating fee computer and operating other electronic equipment.
  • Must be able to perform mathematical transactions manually.
  • Process various parking transactions in a high capacity environment working quickly and accurately with minimum supervision.
  • Assist customers by responding to multiple inquires using discretion and excellent customer service skills.
  • Perform accurate cash balancing activities, prepare reconciliation reports, sort and prepare money and documentation for deposit.
  • Clean and maintain work area daily.

The University of Michigan’s Office of Financial Aid is looking for the ideal candidate to review eligibility for both need-based and merit-based scholarship funding offered through the Office of Financial Aid; to assist in the administration of existing scholarship and financial aid programs; to advise students and others regarding scholarship programs; and to assist in developing new policies and procedures.  This position will counsel and process athletic financial aid in accordance with the Department of Education and NCAA guidelines.

Responsibilities*

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Administer and reconcile various endowed and expendable scholarship programs. Manage specific private scholarship programs. Counsel scholarship recipients.

Compile data and reports to outside donors and organizations. Serve as a resource for OFA staff regarding scholarship related issues.Administer and monitor financial aid for student-athletes according to federal, institutional, and NCAA regulations.

Work in conjunction with the Athletic Department. Counsel and advise student athletes. Serve as resource for university departmental personnel on NCAA regulations pertaining to permissible aid for student-athletes. Ensure accurate financial aid reporting in NCAA software.

Coordinate programs between OFA and donors, outside agencies, scholarship committees, community foundations, and other university units.

Advise students, parents, and outside offices and agencies and other University personnel on scholarship programs and financial aid issues. Work with the Development Office in developing and fine-tuning scholarship programs.Maintain working knowledge of legislation and regulations governing financial aid programs, need analysis methodology, NCAA regulations, NCAA software, requirements of scholarship programs, federal and state laws, and office policies and procedures.

Assist in the evaluation of scholarship programs. Work with editorial staff to develop new scholarship publications and forms.Provide professional representation of the OFA and the University of Michigan at Athletic compliance conferences, University functions, presentations, professional meetings, scholarship organizations, and other groups seeking general financial aid information.

Supervision Received:

Direct supervision is received from the Assistant Director for Scholarships.

Required Qualifications*

– A bachelor’s degree is required.

– One year of experience as a financial aid administrator/professional.

– Strong oral and written communication skills, and attention to detail.

– Experience working with data systems, and working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

– Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to create and maintain relationships with internal/external partners.

– Ability to make independent decisions, appropriately utilize professional judgment and to interpret federal/state/institutional regulations/policies/procedures is a must.

Desired Qualifications*

Familiarity and working knowledge of NCAA regulations regarding financial aid.
